For you F-1 geeks (like me). A friend gave me a program from the 1972 Monaco race. I was nine years old at the time but even then I knew who Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill was. These pics are from the official racing program. COOL!
Strange year 1972 - I left school then without a clue what to do next.
Listening to Slade, T.Rex, Nazareth, Status Quo and Hawkwind - many strange bands were also just on the edges of what I knew about, but mostly I just wanted to work for my old man and earn money.
I don't think F1 played any part of my life then, but I did read Autosport magazine sometimes - mainly for the Touring Cars - 3 litre BMWs vs Capris round the Nuburgring made for some epic photographs in those days....
I'd say it all turned out well for you! At least that's how it looks from my perspective. Ah yes, thankfully I had an older brother and sister so I was cultured to that era of music (and I still like it too). As for F-1. There was little or no TV coverage in the states but I read what I could and kept up that way. I think I was the only person in the central U.S. who even knew of people like Jacky Ickx, Clay Regazzoni, Ronnie Peterson...etc.
And what athletes they were!! I saw Stewart in Monaco that year, imagine that!! shush... Watched him bust around that hairpin turn from the palace walls! Whew!! What great racin'!!
You lucky pup! I sent these pics to a buddy of mine at work. He said "Where in the world did you get a program from the 72 Monaco race?" I told him our story and now he's green with envy!LOL Thanks again.
